Reichert Votes to Protect Seniors' Healthcare

Statement

After this morning's House passage of legislation to permanently repeal the flawed Sustainable Growth Rate (SGR) formula used to determine Medicare physician reimbursement (H.R. 4015), U.S. Congressman Dave Reichert (WA-08) issued the following statement:

"Today's vote was critical for America's seniors and their doctors. Without a permanent repeal of the SGR, seniors are in perpetual danger of losing access to their doctors. In just a little over two weeks' time, Medicare physicians could experience a nearly 24 percent cut to their reimbursement which could lead some providers to drop out of the Medicare program or stop accepting new Medicare patients. H.R. 4015 would keep that from happening now and in the future -- offering seniors stability and providing certainty to doctors for the first time since 1997. It is important that we take this step to strengthen and improve the Medicare program. The bill ensures Medicare is focused on the quality of care and senior's health outcomes, not the number of appointments on their calendar. It is now time for the Senate to act so we can make this legislation law."
